How to Know If Your Website Already Shows Up in ChatGPT's Answers
Unlike Google, where tools like Search Console show you exactly which positions you rank in and for which searches, measuring your presence in AI tools like ChatGPT is less direct — there’s no official equivalent dashboard (yet) for most businesses. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be evaluated.
Practical ways to check your presence
- Ask the tool directly — ask the kinds of questions a potential customer might ask (“what AI automation agencies are there in Argentina?”, “who offers [your service] for [your type of customer]?”) and check whether your business gets mentioned.
- Try variations of the question — how the query is phrased can change the answer; testing several variants gives a fuller picture.
- Compare against competitors — ask the same questions and see which other businesses show up in your place, to understand who you’re actually competing against for that visibility.
- Check whether they cite your specific content — some AI tools show sources; if they cite content from your site, that’s a direct signal your content is being used as a reference.
- Repeat the check periodically — these tools’ answers change over time as the information they work from gets updated.
What to do if you don’t show up
If, after running these tests, your business doesn’t show up mentioned at all, that’s a signal your content isn’t structured enough yet, or doesn’t have the topical authority these tools need to consider it a trustworthy source. This can be worked on with clearer, more specific, more verifiable content — the same kind of work done for traditional SEO, with an added focus on how AI systems process that information.
An important clarification
Not showing up today doesn’t mean it’s impossible to show up in the future — it’s a relatively new channel, and businesses that start working on it now have an edge over the ones that aren’t even considering it yet.
The expected result
